need mechanics advice on how to get my vp3.8v6 motor thats in my bedford to lock, i was going pretty fast & loving the ride but the box was changing to third then to fourth then back again & annoying me big time, it must be a wire somewhere that locks it but where?

ask hammers.. i think he is the only mechanic here. but he charges $75 dollars a call for advice so try and fit it all into the one call..

I would think that the cable would need adjustment if thats possible. (I think they have a cable kick down) you may want to check to see if the cable is free
from obstruction. I'm thinking that if the cable being caught on somthing it may be pulling it tight causing it to kick back.
another issue could be a frayed or damaged cable not returning.
Has this prob being there since you owned it or has it just developed as of late.

thanks boys i was told that it was something to do with the wiring from computer, the trans is a t700 vp one.

Lyndon check the kickdown cable tension first. Also could be wiring issue or speed sensor in the trans.
Get onto ebay and buy a workshop manual on cd for a VN / VP as this will give you all the info you need.
If you cant find one on ebay let me know and I'll burn of 1 for you.

T700's come out in two types.
one type has some electric solenoids where the other has
hydraulic valves of some sort. not sure if this helps but the lockup converter
wont work if you don't have an auto computer.
more useless info is the T700 in an 84 Z28 camaro isnt the same and is almost impossible to
find, so dont buy a camaro with a stuffed T700 and think you can whack a commodore one in
there like i did.... :( thats how i found out there are two commodore ones.

Bren there's a lot of different T700 - R4 4L60 is a non electric from VN & VP - 4L60E is the electric version but with many types like 6HDD. If you are buying a 4L60E make sure the code is the same as the one you have!
I forgot to mention I have step by step DVD's to rebuild both 4L60 & 4L60E $40 for both inc postage

unfortunately the 84 Z28 has a torque bar off the gearbox housing that only suits a 305 camaro.....(bastards)
I really could have used that DVD a few months ago but i rebuilt it the ol' fashoined way....
with a book and an old man.

all good but how do i know what t700 i have? theres lots of room under the beddy to get to it though.

Lyndon I had a look at some of the photos and you have a t700 4L60 so a non electric trans. Best to get a VN workshop manual on cd the 1 below is only $8 and go through the steps of adjusting the Throttle Valve cable (TV cable) aka kickdown cable first. It will also have the diagnostics for checking the electrical part ie speed sensor etc.
