Hi guys,
Wonderin if you could help as i'm not too good with electrics, when i turn on my indicators both indicator lights on the dash flash and my fuel guage starts to swing in time with the flasher ??? is this just a bad earth or is something else causing this ???
Would appreciate any info, thanks.

sounds like bedford wiring lol
yeah bad earth

I am not a sparky, but it sounds like you may have a wire from the indicators touching the fuel, so when you power the indicators, power is going to the fuel gauge as well. I would check and make sure there is no exposed wiring, could be as simple as a stran of wire touching. Good luck.

My question would be did this just happen out of the blue, has it always done this or did it occur just after you had been working on it for whatever reason?
If the latter I would suggest retracing your steps and check the areas you had been working in.

bad wiring they have either wired the idicators from the fuel wiring plus bad bad earth id give it to an auto elec
-
The faults have been like this since i got her in december, but as she was being used over summer i didnt want to start playin with the electrics, will have a look at the basics as advised but if it gets too deep will take the advice and see an auto elec.
Thanks for the info.

Check if any of the indicator bulbs have blown, this can cause the problem because when one is blown it tries to find an earth through another circuit.
Cheers

it may be the rear of the dash panel, the copper filaments between the plastic sheets break down with age, especially if sun exposed because of no rear panel, and is a major cause of such gremlins, good luck.

funny enough they actually run thru the same curcuit, I have just spent last night refitting a new fuse box and correcting everything, so far so good BUT at the mo mine's doing the exact same thing...........I think it could be related to indicators, fuel earth (tank) Iv'e read over the last couple of days My plan is to sort it today will let you know. I don't think it can be a bulb as my hazards are fine, but i have no lh rear indicator and number plate light...... it's all related somewhere.

tch tch tch tch.... :-\ indeed dano,.. all gremlins are related... beddy "wiring gremlins" are the worsterest one,s of them all, but!! its not so much that .. after major contortioning :P upside down, on ya head, :-\ accelerater jammed into your left ear, >:( brake pedal pushin to return, on the back of your scone, ??? knee on back of drivers seat, :-X ,just to try an get a good look at the gremlins handiwork... :o an the mob rings (its important) :'( :'( uncontort yourself, :( , miss call, :-X :-X an repeat aforementioned steps x 3 more, till you think ..." unfurl..an walk away till tomoz" guzz a coldie n crash!!.. its more that after you crash, the inscrutable wiring gremlins come an jump all over you an belt you while you slumber, im sure of it.. cos never spent a day under the dash, where the next mornin i havent been sore n stiff, n ache like i copped a good slappin :-[ ,,, maybe should do a write on underdashboard wiring. working under your dash,"yoga for the beddy enthusiast"... ::) ::) :D

Dano, let me know how you get on, i might just go through all my connections on my lights and renew them, may help as i had a dodgy RH tail light and front parking light, cleaned up the connection on the tail and my park light started to work ??? Gremlins >:(

sorry Stuey, due to trying to fix the tranny for this w/ends run I didn't get a chance, sorry mate i will do.
-
try this stuey this is my plan when i get to it....( remember I'm no auto sparky, it's just from the haines green manual) pages 181 219/220
indicators,
from the fuse box , white in green out , current draw should be 4amp, fuse 5amps,
also on this fuse ... w/s/wipers, temp gauge, fuel contents , oil pressure warning , ign warning , brake pressure warning(later models)
chk all grnds, connections, adjust/ clean/replace if necessary
chk bulbs / holders ............ "" "" ""
flasher units b/hind dash square for ind round for hazards
indicator stork for any worn broken wires bad contacts green in, green out
also chk dash instruments plug , cln adjust tighten if necessary this is what fixed my headlights just a simple remove and replace but i tightened the females and scuffed the males......SHWEET!!
good luck Dano

FUEL GAUGE
@ tank, green/black to tank blk to grnd.
grn/blk goes to dash via dash plug hmmmm
you can chk resistance if you....
a) remove sender unit , set a voltmeter "inline" poss to grn/blk and neg to blk grnd pin ( on unit) slowly move sender swing arm, the voltage should either go up or down, full or mpty , you again can cln the (gently) scuff / contact cleaner on the unit ( note where the swing arm rubs the contacts)
or set v/meter inline and get someone to fill tank, and watch resistance go up or down ( knowing the sender is working ok) should be a consistant clean reading if not , ur sender is touch n go.....litterally
ok I'm outta hear tick tock tick tock dan

if i got something wrong or you sparkies know better ... do tell ! cheers dan

I had the exact same thing happen to me when i was rewiring my cf, the indicator lights were both flashing and the fuel gauge was ticking back and forth, took me ages to figure out what it was, the main earth to dash circuit had disconnected, reconnected it and it was all back to normal
