Hi all,
can I ask a silly question please about the fuse box?
I've checked the wiring diagrams and all wires are in the right place but I have problems with some fuses not having power across them but everything works still??? Got brake lights, hazards but the fuses on the right side of the fuse box for these circuits can be totally removed but everything still works. What the????
I assume that this is not normal. Even Lucas electricals will use all the fuses surely...
I have two 'constant live' brown wires and ignition powered white/blue wire but that is only powering the light circuit.
Have i got a bridged wire somewhere or is this it normal for half the fuses to have no power?
Cheers

only half the time ;D ;D ;D ;D sounds like a trip to the autoleccy is in the wind willo ;)

I think some things are only live when in use

It depends when you are testing them. If you are testing them with the ignition off then you will find that those circuits running off the 'Accessory' terminal on the ignition switch will probably be dead however when you turn the key to the Accessory position or start the van those circuits will then become live. All the others should be live regardless.
If this is not the case then you may find that someone has done a dodgy to get a dead circuit running at some point which is very possible with old vehicles and it is in your interests to find it and fix it because those sorts of repairs lead to fires.

Sounds like someone has bypassed the fuse, not a good idea.
I've had quite a few bad fuse holders, fuse is good but the metal to metal contact isn't.
A quick sand with fine sandpaper (holder and fuse) will sort it.
And a few fuses that needed the spade terminals on the back sanded too.

yes if it all works leave it willo... everything works on mine.. yet it looks like a massacre under my dash , i just isolated all the live etc wires hanging loose from whoever butchered it, till time n cash come to fix properly..as pullin dashes is a maximus headfrack... had an XP ute in the 90,s :o door lock was shagged :o , right hand indicater used to flash every time i opened the drivers door.. ??? ??? lol used it to my advantage tho ;D ;D wired it to the horn with an isolator switch outside in the back, had my own anti theft alarm ;D ;D ;D ;D not that anyone would have wanted to pinch the rust bucket anyway lol ::)

Gentlemen,
we have found a solution. Thank you for all your responses. I went looking and peeled back the tape on parts of the harness and found the problem. :)
Oh, what was the problem? ;D
Well, like most of these things it was more than just one issue.
- Behind the dash there is a 3 way connector for the live 'Brown' wire. Well, some womble had done a dodgy when fixing up an old short and burnt wiring. :o The brown wire looks like it is supposed to come in and go to the fuse box and the headlight switch. nope, wire had been cut and joined in elswhere.
- wire from ignition switch had been swapped with another inside the plug inside the schroud.
- wire on back of fuse box had dodgy connection.
Anyway, all is good now and wiring is fixed and fuse box is now AOK and working like it should be. ;D ;D
Thank you one and all
Cheers

g'day Eddy. Back up home mate safe and well. Had a brilliant trip and played up very nicely ;)
Bike and rider had a ball.
Thanks for keeping me in the loop mate. I understand about the ebb and flow of life and how it can get in the way at times.
Cheers
