hey all, has any one got a couple of front door hinges, that they would like to sell, swap or give to me?
I need 2 of the upper hinges (the ones with the spring) from either side of the van.
I pretty sure they are exactly the same, except for the spring location.
I am going to try and install them into the side cargo door on my van.
has any one seen this done before? ???
some one must have done it,
it almost seems easy. ALMOST!

the biggest reason it isn't being done often is because of all the reinforcing needed. would be easier to use the side door external hinges, you can get left hand side door hinges from UK way less work and little to none reinforcing
I think it's stumpy on here who has put narrowed backdoors into the side door hole
-
do you know where I can see some pictures of what other people have done to modify the hinges.
there are a few reasons why I want to change the hinges, firstly I think the van looks allot smoother with out the external hinges
and the original hinges have no limit, (if wind catches the door it will swing all the way open, panels will be damaged)
and also upper front door hinges have the spring in them to hold the door in the full open position, this would also be good on the side door.

My Azzvan must have these springs missing or something, as the front doors do not stay open unless you stick a block of wood in there. My Old van, i dunno if there are springs in there, but the whole door feels a lot stiffer to open/ close and they stay open
If i can get the front hinges on the Azzvan sorted (whether i use the ones from the old van or get new springs or whatever) i guess you could have whatever s left over if they're suitable.
Also, my side door on the azzvan hinges 'backwards' ie its a suicide door. I want to change this back to normal as my side door latch/lock is a fickle thing and i never use the side door as it'll take me 10mins of swearing to lock it again. I guess cuz the locking mechanism was never meant to work upside down.

howdy check my pics out i put some of my side door hinges up for you and i dont have a problem with the strength of the body holding it

nice one Rush/Numnuts......have seen this done once on China Blue's 2nd rebuild and was most impressed, but funny enough the third owner / rebuild (now Merlin's black Beddie) changed it back..??
Rush, would love to see some more photo's if poss.... with whole door in open pos. and a general side piccy 8)

that's a nice job, exactly what I'm thinking of doing,
it seems to me that the side door weighs less than a front door, so I didn't think strength would to much of an issue.
did you have many issues setting up the spacing?
-
i shall get some more pics up soon but the only bumber is the door doesnt open 90 degrees thats why i am looking of going gullwing instead and sorry i didnt do the conversion i bought the van like it
-
I look forward to seeing more pics. I just noticed your van has no door handles, some pics of them would be good too.
I went out to u-pull it today, they actually had 1 CF Bedford, but the upper hinges were worn and the spring bit was broken.
I'm still looking for door hinges if anyone has a couple.
-
what u-pull it did you go to and did the cf have a diff in it
-
Northern U-Pull it, yeah I think it was holden 10 bolt diff,
the CF they have in there is a big camper back thingy.
I have a pic of it. I'll put it up, there really isn't much good stuff on it. doors were straight but rusty.
