Hi there all, as my profile name says "i'm new to the game" of bedfords.. so i'm probably going to ask a question or three that may of been asked in the past, if this is the case then i apologise upfront now..
Anyway i've found 2 "neat looking" straight as a die bedford SWB Van's but in the colour of green and another in baby blue (looks queer as) anyway I'm wanting to find out how much it would cost to respray in a black colour all over -- not show quality but something that would stand out whiles in a parking lot or driving down the street.
I know its a "rough" question to put, but i've got a "tight" budget for the complete build, and i know this will be possibly the largest outlay on the build.
Thankyou if you can give me some info.
Kind REgards

G'day
Where do you hale from?
How long have they been off the road?
You may need to do brakes etc.
A nice rebuild can easily run to $25,000, how much less than that depends on your ingenuity.
By the way there is a missing green CFS van with a history.

hey B.B.
From the south west of Perth... roughly what is a price for a respray for a full change of colour also ? from the green to a black.
Thanks

Hey guys, mate i am close to getting my van painted, after xmas i hope, for a show quality paint job, i was quoted around $2000. That does not cover prep, or air brushing, but that is a good quality paint, in a heated spray booth and 2pac, and done by guys that normally do quarter million dollar mustangs, corvettes and high end customs. So i guess it will depend on the painter and how particular he is, i was lucky i got a perfectionist, but living and working on the goldcoast, every day is a party for him, and trying to keep him on schedule has been a battle in its self, but we are onto the last of the big custom bits in a fortnight and then its just fidderly bits to clean up b4 it goes to paint. So good luck mate, choose your painter carefully, and make sure he listens to what you want, and you should have a nice van. Now, WHERES the pics. lol ;) ;D ;D ;D

The white LWB in my gallery has taken me 280 hrs so far , but that includes, putting half the front end in and back together, copious amounts of rust, fabrication of most panels and 90% effort panel n painting...paint itself a 2 pac industrial paint (i love it) prob 6ltrs, <$600.00 paper , bog , tools, etc... I'M NOT GOING THERE..lol (but my tool box looks sht hot)but quite happy with the 'ol girl , not a show room job but I can tell you a sh&^%$T load better than some of " the professional" jobs I have seen.... it's all about the time .....try and find someone willing to keep you motivated (us lot) and a pro willing to "advise" you as you go... and give it a go , or pay him to come round for a day or two and watch and learn / help out... just a thought, good luck , ;)

newtothegame, it really depends on your budget and what you want from the paint job, but if you do all the work other than the physical painting it will be cheaper, if you expect the painter to sand the van back, fix and problems and then primer the van, sand it back, then paint it as well as all the masking the cost will go up pretty quick.. I know a few painters and most of the time they're flat out (they're still doing plenty of hail damaged vehicles)
dano, sound like you've got a bit of confidence built up now.. when are you starting on that green machine?

Here is something for you to consider, contact your local TAFE that does panel/beating & spray painting as they always need projects to learn on, two of my mates got there cars done one was a good paint job the other was done in gloss black and he ended up winning top paint at a car show, he was lucky as this was the students final exam cost? just materials, time, about the same time as a panel shop

P.S. UPDATE YOUR PROFILE

as a car painter / panelbeater most of your cost is in the rubbing down and masking as we all hate it so we charge for it normally like wounded bulls you can save yourself some big dollars if you rub it down primer it then talk nicley to the painters and tell them what you want and the level then make a time take it in then mask it yourself and just get them to blow the top coat but dont skimp on the prep as it will show threw on the finish

It is getting exciting now, custom body work that i dreamed of for a decade has now been completed, and it looks just as i envisioned, so i am over the moon. I will be locking in three days at the end on this month to do the biggest of the jobs, if we pull this last big custom mod off, it will be awesome, i am busting to release pics but keep telling myself to wait a bit longer. When i do post the pics there will be hundreds for each mod. So far i have shot over 4000 pics of the build and hours of video. We finished the grill last week, mounted the new awesome headlights, so getting there. As for fidderly bits, well there are going to be lots, welding up unused holes in the firewall, reframing and strenghtening the engine hole, building a new engine cover, and it goes on lol. But i am lucky i have a good team of tradies, they know how to listen, and advise of better ways to do things and then bring what is in my head to life, and so far everything has been designed in my head, then i do sketches, then look for simular ideas online and then file everything for years, till it's time to create. So far my sheet metal guy has not seen what the next step is till he gets here to start, that way he is only working on the job at hand and not thinking of the next job. Hopefully when he comes next he will have paint samples for me to look at, i know what colours i am doing, but as he said, you can do lots of variations on a colour these days, so i am open to some of these, as for airbrushing, as i write this i am looking at 3000 ideas i have in a folder on my pc, pics and designs i have been collecting for over ten years, just waiting for this day. The beauty is, as you will see, even with all the mods, my van will still have the beddy shape, the one thing i was determined not to do was mutilate the body to the point of not reconising it as a beddy, i'm saving that for my next van. lol ;D ;D ;D
You gotta love beddies to put this efford in, and for the last 3yrs i have had an image of my finished van in my head, and we are so close now, i can almost see it coming down my driveway.
So newtothegame, if you really want this to happen, make it, i am a double amputee, with one eye, and nothing is going to stop me from again cruising in my beddy, i can taste it i am so close. ;) ;D ;D

Hey newtothegame, some good advise there from the guys. Take some pics of your van and go around to a few panel shops and explaine what you want from them. From my experience you get what you pay for. Don't let a painter tell you what he wants to do, you tell him what you want , if he listens then he is worth thinking of using, but resprays can start off around 2g and anywhere up to 15g depending on the quality of the finish. Some painters won't do just a spray because if body prep isnot good it shows in there end result after painting and they don't want their name matched to paint that is flaking because of poor workmanship underneath. I have a friend who paid 3 grand just to get his undercarraige painted in gloss back. Do some research, chat to people at car shows and get an idea, just don't rush into it. Good luck
James
