Ok, so a mate of mine has a 1984 XT Celica that he is going to scrap and i've told him that before he does, i may be interested in his 5 speed box to do a conversion
So a few questions
1. How much is a celica 5 speed worth? I've said to him maybe $100?
2. What else do i need and how much will it cost (ie shifter clutch, bell housing?)
3. Anything else
Oh, and a bit of info about my van
Red 202
Currently 3 speed Manual
Currently std diff, but i'll change to a HQ diff when i change the gearbox
Will be running 15" rims on the back

My current Holden 3 speed has ratios:
1st: 3.07:1
2nd: 1.68:1

Standard diff is 4.2:1??
My mates Celica has either a W55 or W58
W55
First Gear: 3.566:1
Second Gear: 2.056:1
Third Gear: 1.384:1
Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
Fifth Gear: 0.85:1
W58
First Gear: 3.285:1
Second Gear: 1.894:1
Third Gear: 1.275:1
Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
Fifth Gear: 0.783:1
Possible HQ diff ratios
3.08, 3.36, 3.55
Tyres (295-50-R15) have a diameter of 676mm (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html))
Using the calculator on http://www.osella.com.au/gear-ratios.htm (http://www.osella.com.au/gear-ratios.htm)
i get an rpm value of 2093 - 2619 at 110kph in top gear depending on combination of diff and trans
(currently, using all the same calcs, i'm revving 2753rpm at 80kph and a theoretical 3785rpm at 110kph)
So maths wise it seams all good, but is there anything i'm missing?
Will a 202 have enough power to get a celica 5 speed with a 3.08 ratio up to speed?
Should i leave the standard trans or diff?
Any help will be greatly appreciated

one thing to remember with the conversion is the standard shfiter comes up threw the floor
in line with the back of the seat.
depending on the type of driving you do should determine the diff ratio, if your just cruising up and down
freeways stick with the 3.08, if your a bit of a lead foot round town you may want to go for something a bit higher.

you will need a holden to toyota bell housing & the tail shaft yoke to put on the old 3 speed drive shaft then get it shortened.
i had an original beddy 4.3:1 diff & 4 speed box it was around those high revs for speed but put in a cresta crown & pinion of 3.2 & now pulls 2,200rpm at 100km & 1,800rpm at 80-85km

Ok so i got the car for $200 and its a W55 Box
one thing to remember with the conversion is the standard shfiter comes up threw the floor
in line with the back of the seat.
Any ideas/solutions/kits to fix this?

jesus, you need a gooseneck shifter, eg bends at the floor level forward (somewhat significantly) then bends upward so it seems to be in a standard shifter position.
You will also need a new spigot bearing as the end of the spigot on a celica box is smaller than a holden box. CRS used to do this bush, i'd say they still do.

All that and a holden pressure plate with a toyota clutch. You can get the kit from trades brake places, make sure you get the spigot bearing! Then mount a 1/8" steel plate with a hole to fit to the fire wall for the clutch pedal cable end.
The clutch lever in mine is a see-saw type so you push it back to move the thrust bearing forwards onto the pressure plate. With a hydraulic clutch slave cylinder, this is no problem. Preferably, a clutch lever that is PULLED is much better.
The gear stick I have is about 2 foot long and angles to the front so that it's about level with the front of the drivers seat.
