Title: expressions of interest
Post by: Merlin on August 13, 2010, 11:20:05 PM
Hey Guys & gals i am just wondering if anyone is interested in a new disc brake conversion i am working on useing standard Bedford front hubs and VT commy front brakes .I can get blank rotors so i can supply any stud pattern you want only down side is you have to run 15 in rims (295mm dia rotors &twin spot calipers) .I am looking at doing them on an exchange basis on the bedy hubs    Cheers Neil

Hey Merlin, sounds like a pretty good idea.
I'm looking at a second hand hoppers stoppers kit at the moment.

What sort of final cost are you looking at?
Also, do you have a stockpile of VT calipers, or just want them as they're twin piston?
I was speaking with Peter at hoppers stoppers somewhat extensively about 6 months ago, and he was saying the AU series3 or BA onwards are a superior caliper as the VT calipers tend to be a bit spongy.

But yeah I think it's a great idea, im sure with your knowledge and experience, they'll be engineered to a high standard

G'Day Matte I was looking at either offering a complete kit or just the modified hubs I can even machine the rotors down to suit the HQ-WB calipers . as far as the VT calipers go the spounginess is due to the pad composition and I feel the total weight of the Bedford ,even with a V8 wouldn't be noticable and would have far superior stopping power         Cheers Neil

Hey Neil I'm dping A VT front brake conversion at the moment I looked at useing the bedford hub at first but if you machine the spiggot where the wheel fits over down to Holden or Ford size it WILL break through the hub There is NOT enough meat in the inside of the hub to do this So ive used a VH Holden hub& disc & cut off the disc & machined the hub down to fit inside the VT disc hat [ check out my CAMPER UPDATE POSTS it will all be in there Cheers Reid

OOOOooo  Ive always said you are a clever bugga Neil. ;D Are the VT rotors bigger or smaller than the HQ rotors?

You better belive it John nearly 300mm & about 28mm thick going to be ausome

G'Day Reid I believe there is more than enough meat in the hub after machining if you have a look at the inside of the VT rotor the spigot bore has a chamfer on the inside face so if the hub is machined to the same shape it gives you approx 11mm wall thickness and you will find that is thicker than the holden hubs so i think that they will be plenty strong enough .btw I will be running the whole box n dice past my engineer for certification    Cheers Neil
