Make it real easy to post photos from your own picture gallery/computer and that automaticly resizes them so it doesn't tell me off by saying too big, I've got lots of pic's that you would like to see, tool tech section I like that idea. In the events section an e-mail goes out to all members a week before as a reminder, thats all for now

The easiest way to display images on the forum is to upload them to your gallery first. The gallery will resize them so you can then link them here.

Number the pictures in the Gallery section so that you know how many there are and and how far along you are so if you have to come back to them you know what number

We might be able to have something like this. I'm not sure about sending everyone an email whenever someone has a birthday though. Might be classed as spam.

Hey Shane, just a thought, but not a compulsory one, what about a place where we can put up a head shot maybe, sometimes i wonder who it is i'm talking to, what they look like. I have mixed thoughts on this one, but thought we could toss it up for discussion. If we go for it, can i suggest in mr john abbotts profile you put a LOT of headshot spaces, we know he loves to post his mug, and i think he will run out of space. lol LOL  ;D ;D ;D sorry johnno. lol

Heres one 4 ya.
What about as some one adds pics to their gallerys they move to page 1.
That way you dont have to search all the time to see who's added pics!
Title: Re: Ideas for new site design

I am on a roll.
Dont want to upset anyone, but time for a Cull?
Lot users who haven't posted, kinda makes the numbers a bit inflated.
Dont want to turn it into a snobs board just honest. :)
Title: Re: Ideas for new site design
Post by: Bedfordcrazy on August 22, 2010, 11:37:49 AM
To add to what pickmeup said, why not have a new window to the left, say under recent posts, plenty of room, and if new pics are added you can click on an icon and go to the new pics. In the same box you could add the names of everyone that is logged in. Also as someone asked about in another post this morning, instead of leaving the page you are on to start a new post, in the same box as the above 2 items, have NEW TOPIC, we click on it and we go straight to where we go now to start a topic.

just a thought to yor "cull" comment pickmeup.. maybe some of our members just enjoy a read of wots goin down, or find a solution to their probs by cruisin the threads, an who knows may feel self concious of threading themselves, but seein as they hav taken the time to reg n cruise the news it would possibly be unfair to chop em out simply cos they havent thrown in their two bobs worth, a member is a member in the end and all have a right to remain silent if they so wish to.. the more the merrier i reckon mate  ;) ....... u snob  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;)

how about a little box under the recent posts on the left with 'upcoming events' so we can keep track of how far away the next cruise or rod show is, have some sort of countdown aswell. 2days to go or 2 weeks to go or whatever.
I also like the free money thing
and more pictures of half to fully naked women. if any of the female members are offended by pictures of other women naked, they are more than welcome to post pictures of themselves  ;D

maybe a member of the week/month where a member is randomly selected and their picture and gallery are visible from the first/home page to make new members more aware of the insanity of those they are now surrounded by

compulsory pictures in for sale threads, so we can have a few randomly selected for sale items with pictures on the home page

post count in the threads, so you can see whether the post is stupid because of recent membership or drunken stupidity  :D

ability to bookmark threads, so it is easy to look back over threads you deem important to future work/reference

a link to your own recent posts or threads started so you can easily update things with new information

that'll do for now, but im sure theres more

Hey skip, you will never be culled and end up on the bbq. lol Hey you could unzip your pouch and release the green van. lol  ;D ;D As for a ghost pic, we could have a full page pic of a custom van that sits in the back ground, light enough so that it does not make it hard to read and work on the site.

if you're going to do background images, can you make it optional? its too hard to read with most background images so i'd prefer to be able to turn it off on my screen
I liek the idea of lots of different pictures of members vans in the header, we need to find a photoshop pro from amongst us

I like the business directory idea, but maybe we need members businesses too (if the member is willing to have the details on the net) as I'd rather buy the same item form a member than some other random company whatever the item is.

Also, what about something that sends out an email to those that want to be notified when the site goes down, just so we know it is the site and not our pcs. I was going to post this yesterday, and forgot, well surprise me not, i go to connect this morning and the site has gone down again. I have only just got back in 60secs ago.

If the site is down the mail server will be down so unfortunately this wont work.

As for the site being down today, there has been nothing wrong on the server side. Must of been a problem with your ISP.

Hi shane, yeh not sure mate, we had another blackout early morning, so had to reboot the modem, so who knows. I was able to go on line, check mail, but when i tried to get onto buga, it was the only site i was blocked from bringing up, thats why i thought it was down, i got the bigpond message of not being able to find buga. So i kept trying till i finally got back in. Oh well, i just hope that the new fibre optics will be 100% more reliable, when they offer it to us [if] then i will completey overhaul our whole system, we also have tivo connected to our broadband. Hey shane tell me this, if you know, our modem has 4 ports out, can you get a modem with more then 4 ? i have not seen any.

george.

If you need more ports George just go and buy a small 8 port network switch and plug that into your modem/router. You can pick them up for bugger all. A 100mb jobbie should be more than sufficient.

They are dirt cheap over here for a basic diy unit, i just was'nt sure if they did more then a 4 port, just have never seen them. But now i know they exist, i will check with hervey norman next time i am down there. Thanks.

Yeah network switches are cheap as.  Just for your info I sell the following.

5 Port 10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch $23
8 Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch $29

I will keep you in mind shane, but for now i probably wont act untill i see what is happening with fibre optic, i suspect we should start hearing about it sometime next year, now that they have started  rolling it out up north. If its like pay tv we will miss out by a street or to and have to settle for wireless or a dish. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm   ??? ???
