I am moving forward on the disc conversion.
I bought some HZ calipers. Is it ok to use the alloy calipers? from a HZ. I didn't realise they would be different.
moving along.. i have a 1980 lwb BUT it has 5 stud pattern and single rear axle. Would i have the post 73 stubs or the old ones? I read somewhere that the longies had the old stub size. i wonder if tis just refers to the six stud style.
cheers

I remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't use the alloy calipers if you can avoid it. Can't quite remember the reason why but I think it had something to do with where the bleed nipple was located. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think when they were used in a conversion the bleed nipples ended up at the lowest point of the caliper so it was impossible to bleed all the air out. I could be wrong so someone feel free to correct me. I might be getting confused with another model.

hey mate, i have the HZ PBR alloy calipers on my van, they work well enough for general duties, but the Girlock alloy calipers HZ-WB are far superior...
I am strongly considering going back to the HQ cast iron calipers as they are alot stronger.
I did have issues with these PBR calipers previously, but i wont go into that, as i dont like scaring people........

i had that issue with not being able to bleed alloy callipers once rouge i would suggest your right.

The way to bleed those callipers is to unbolt them and turn them over.

i had that idea later but never did it.

You could do that but it turns what should be a simple task into a major time-consuming operation. If you really had to have the alloy callipers then maybe you could talk to an engineer about moving the location of the bleed nipple but for all that mucking around and expense I think I'd be keeping an eye out for a set of HQ PBR's.

I'll just stick them back on ebay and start again.
