Title: SWB found for sale in WA
Post by: MaTTe on June 30, 2010, 11:02:27 PM
Hey fellas, this van has been cruising past my place recently, honking the horn while i've been out the front on a few occasions. I'd been planning to catch the number on the side and call him to get the van on BUGA, but tonight while the missus and i were looking for her potential new car i stumbled across this...

hard to see from the photos, but it has pipes that exit infront of the rear wheels, its a 202 red with extractors and a k&n, disk brake front with hq calipers by the looks of it, looks like hq stud pattern. Body looks pretty clean and straight, paint looks pretty good too.
Interior looks quite nice, roof all wood lined, dash looks interesting

Now the interesting part.. it was at Lynford in osborne park, it was only traded yesterday or the day before. the blokes dont know anything about it or what to do with it.
I asked how much it'd likely go for and one bloke said probably $10,990. I told him he wouldn't get anywhere near that.. I said you could buy a good show van for $10k, but this one could probably be sold for around $5k. I said i'd spread the word as a few blokes are looking and then they said i'd get a finders fee if i send someone in that does buy.
So if anyone is interested, we can go in and you can have whatever they give me as a finders fee to reduce your bill a bit more.

What you'd want to do it fast talk them, they know NOTHING about it, they told me it goes hard because the bloke put in a 250 cross flow. i had a quick look in the dark, but it looks nothing like a cross flow, and everything like a 202.. hahaha

They wont know that disk brake fronts are desirable, they probably think it's standard. The diff was hard to see(it was in a dark corner) but looks like a hq diff.

Tell them the seats look a bit ratty(they're quite good), the sunroof looks liek it was filled with silicon, motor is leaking oil(very easy to fix), point out some rust spots(also not too bad) and you may be able to talk them down to $4k or less.

I was told it was probably traded in on the $5k minimum trade in deal, so it didn't really cost them $5k, they just reduced the price of the other sale by $5k after receiving this.

Anyway, i hope this is of use to someone. If i didn't have a van i'd consider it

i am super keen on checking it out MaTTe.
the pictures aren't showing up but it does sound pretty promising.
where abouts is it located?
from the description it is exactly what I'm looking for, cheers for the heads up.

any chance you can get the pics working?

the pics are working for me, have a look in my gallery if they dont work here.. they're in the random stuff album

Dave, i dont think it'd last long at 8-10k, its not a top quality show van, but it is very good none the less.

the biggest advantage for you blokes is that it hasn't been listed for sale yet, and most walk in buyers wouldn't be looking for a bedford

If they think it has been repowered by a crossflow why not ask if it is approved then use that as bargining power saying it needs an engineers cert for motor
you  could also point out discs and diff saying not standard needs cert!

had a good look with matte the other day, but have not heard back from the seller yet so im presuming it was not 'good enough'.
i think we came to the conclusion that there are much better vans out there for less.

he was pretty keen to put it up for sale at 10999. i offered 6, so go figure :P

This van was for sale down Ravenswood way-ish back in 2005 by a guy and his missus who was living in a caravan park. He told me at the time that he had restored the thing himself and was selling because they planned to travel.

He was chasing about 9 grand for it at the time but was open to offers. I didn't make one as it was more than I wanted to spend at the time. Ha!

And, yeah, pretty sure it had a 202 in it at the time.

Anyway, I guess somebody bought it.

...and sold it.

nope not yet dano.
im beginning to wonder if the place would have minimum trade in though? might be worth buying a shitter and trading it in with some dollars and see how far that gets me.

i was in there the other day, and the vans out the back out of view. Apparently the guys are thinking of keeping it an using it as a promo vehicle for Lynford..

I think with minimum trade you need to have owned the car for 3 months, but the way they were talking the other day, the minimum trade is a scam.. they'll mark the car upto 15990 then give you the 5000 minimum trade so they still get their 10990.

They didn't seem to like that their fantasies were being crushed when we (us and others) went in and told them the van was worth far less than they were hoping to rake in.

Its just a shame i never called the bloke before he traded it, as he probably would have loved to sell the van for 5000 to a bedford lover, as im sure he would have received the 5000 minimum trade, so it would have been an even outcome for him, and a benefit for a member of buga..

oh well, hindsight is a wonderful thing

Ha. A mate of mine was telling last night me that he saw this van and, just now, another mate of mine sent me a text message telling me about the van, too. Jeez, you'd think that Bedfords were gettin scarce or something nowadays...

Griff
those skull knobs were for sale in one of the car parts shops, I saw them in one in scarb beach rd the other day when looking for diff oil.
not expensive but not really my taste

my van has the skull door lock knobs, they look good, but you really need to follow the theme around the van. i'd take mine off, but i think someone used locktite on them as they didn't come off easy when rebuilding the doors, and i dont dislike them enough to damage them during removal.........

anyway, UPDATE, the van is now sitting in the front row of the dealership with $9999 on the windscreen in big numbers..........

P.S I have a skull shifter handle too, but it's not fitted. I'd love to fit it, but not on this van..

Hey John, I got one of those skulls on my custom van (is auto)

They dont do them for auto so i just drilled through the top, square file to square it up and used the bedford auto knob (filed square) to fit the hole - works great. just the eyes dont light up anymore

hey mate, i didn't see it there yesterday, but it may have been out the back. Your best bet is to call them and ask if it's still there. I sent a couple of blokes in there last weekend and they were pretty keen to buy, but it may have gone prior to then for all i know.........
