Hey i'm lookin for a set of jellybean mags, in as good a condition and as chromed up as possible. I think 14x8's is the usual size? Not sure what tyres i'd need to run. This pic shows the look im trying to achieve
Oh and in SA is preferable because thats where i live
-
you need to know what stud pattern before you buy a set fella.
ben
-
yes i do. But what i've heard is standard bedford stud pattern is very rare so if my vans not already changed to hq stud pattern, i'll be looking at doing that shortly
-
Are jellybeans still being made? Could i buy a new set somewhere local?
-
yes they are, and if you want the crome look just get them polished. Dragway will make any size and any stud patern, but you pay big to get what you want
-
If you go to a HQ disc brake conversion and a highway diff with HQ stud pattern you wont have any trougle betting the mags you want - ebay has heaps of them.
Warren
-
do i need an engineers ticket if i change to disc brakes?
-
technically yes..
-
Well i've found out whilst looking through the site that CRS no longer do bedford-hq disc conversions, and that hopper stoppers do a kit, but because of the size of the disc, i need to be running a minimum of 15" rims
so if you have a pair of 15 x 8's and matching 15x10's (jellybean, kidney, D-slot, 5-slot etc) in HQ pattern and can send them to me in SA, give me a yell
i know there's a set of 15x10's on ebay with 295 50 r15 BFG tyres but they're in vic and its a pick-up only deal.

sounds like it's time for a road trip mate!
The problem with 15" rims in the popular designs is that they are hard to find for sale, you can often get 14" jellybeans and hotwires, but 15"s only come up rarely.
If they're a good price, i'd be jumping at them if thats what you really want, then just get one of the melbournites to have them shipped to your door (or better, go on a road trip ;))
-
i have a disc brake kit suit 14" rims? intersted? pm me
-
From what I can gather you would have more choice with the 15's
So if you can get em, GET EM !
Warren
-
agreed Arron get em! 15 are way better and easier to find tyres, 14's tyres are realy getting hard to find (fatties) especially 15 x 10's WITH.... TYRES..... MAN!
-
Who do i use to freight them over?
Anyone know freight companies or prices from Vic to SA?
My only concern then is trying to find 15x8's to match on the front
-
Also, i found in another thread the following
I run a standard holden one tonner diff. with standard american racing 15x10 mags with 275 /60x15 tyres on my standard cfs bedford. The mags are standard holden hq offset ,i.e.3 3/4 inches. This gives about 1/2 inch clearance from the standard spring set up. Been this set up for 24 years with no scrape broblems at all.
cheers Brian
If i convert to a standard 1 tonner diff, these mags (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280546806029&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching#ht_500wt_1154 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280546806029&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching#ht_500wt_1154)) only have a 3 3/8 backspace and they're running 295's, not 275's
Basic maths tells me i'm gonna have problems.
Any thoughts?
-
BED767 brian here
that was my comment about the one tonner diff. As for the 295 tyres they would be close with that offset but it could just clear? You could fit 275's which are still around
-
Hey mate, Call wheels in Ballarat Ask for Paul 0353395252
Apparently these guys stock some hard to come by rims
-
dont know if this helps .....but i have run 295 x 15 tyres on my swb with no flares all i had to do was fold up the lip on the inner edge of the wheel arch (near the chassis) with no scrubbing issues sorry i cant remember the rim offset but i was running a salisbury with 10 inch 12 slotters Cheers Neil
-
Thanks for all your help guys
I want to run 295's as long as i can find them, and if they become obsolete i'll just change to 275's on 10inch rims
Neil, thats re-assuring that 295's will fit thanks. I kinda want flares anyway so hopefully i can work something out
-

if ur seriously interested in it perhaps we could work something out.
It'd be good for parts, but unless you can do panel work yourself, the body is a bit shagged
Would mean you cant fly back though

Well i think i'm going to start pinching bits from it, as i cant seem to sell it whole so its probably not going anywhere. Keep me updated with ur plans and hopefully i can get those fibreglass bits from u. Also did you say you had a disc brake kit for sale?
-
whats the bonett like on it
-
bad,
but i'm looking at getting a fiberglass bonnet from benny, so i'd have a free bonnet from my good van.
It's not too bad, just a bit of rust on the front lip, but i think its cheaper for a glass bonnet than it is to get my current one up to show quality
-
looks like i mite have to do the same and get one of bens when my finance comes up a bit
