G'day,
I'm after a set of rear SWB drums, has anyone got a pair? Located in Sydney.
If you have 2 SWB rear wheel cylinders that are in good nic - I'll take them too.
Cheers

They are 10 inch drums.
Anyone got a set of 10 inch drums that have been re-drilled to suit HQ stud pattern?

heres an idea man. before you go change your diff i am going to be making dragway hub caps out of fibreglass pretty soon.. pop them over your duel wheels + wala:) might even try chroming them too:)

That's an interesting idea Benny boy BUT I think I'll stick to my original plan. :)
Need 10 inch drums x 2 ASAP. :P
-
actually i know where there are 2. ill get back to you..
it will be 60bucks for the pair

Are they in Sydney?

brisbane
Freight might be a killer due to weight... Might be a better option to convert to Holden drums.
-
holden drums are 9 inch so that wont work unless you buy new pads too. which probably more effort than its worth in dollars but up to you jock.

I wouldn't just use the holden drums I would do away with the entire bedford drum setup
and replace with holden setup - parts would be cheap and easily available...
-
may as well go disc. not much extra effort
-
No need to have disc in the rear, 80% braking power in the front, 20% in the rear.
Drums would be less work than disc.
-
im with ben on that 1,
if uve already got the holden stud pattern its not much work fitting disks, and parts are more readly available and easier to service.
all u have 2 do is sorce some statesman rear disks n calopers and weld the brackets on ur axle housing.
-
hang on slow down...
are you telling me its that simple to put holden on the back?
if the answer is yes then can someone give a blow by blow how to do?
-
go n have a look at a statesman HQ=WB disk brake diff.
the disk is a seperate piece that goes on the wheel studs,
so baseically u loose the drum brakes n backing plate, n use the holden disk brake parts.
ud need to put the disk on and tighten up the wheel nuts holding the disk in the right position then fit the brackets to the calopers and place the setup true onto the disk,(make a setup to pump fluid into the calopers so it holds the disk tight then weld the brackets 2 the axle housing.....
you would need the master cyl n booster from the system 2.
ask ben he,s done it recently i believe......
-
as easy as the rear disk sound to fit I would think that modifying the holden backing plate to suit the bedford axle
housing should be a fairly easy thing to do and a fair bit cheaper (parts wise) as well.
saying that, I've never compared the two to see hom much work is involved. just quessing.

well, well, well.... because the van is not in Sydney I asked my cousin to measure the backing plate so that we could figure out whether or not it needed 9 inch or 10 inch drums. So he measures it and tells me it will need the 10 inch drums. Benny boy helps me out with the 10 inch drums, drive to Cowra to put them on and what do you know! The 10 inch drums are too big!!!
So now I have a pair of 10 inch drums (useless to me) and I am NOW LOOKING FOR A PAIR OF 9 INCH REAR BRAKE DRUMS.... If you have a pair or know where some are please let me know.
Cheers

Please somebody help me! :D :D :D

ok so your've already got hq pattern on the rear is that right?
dont bother stuffing around with drum brakes, and dont bother searching for hq statesman rear disc set up coz you gotta be damn lucky to find them.
go to the wreckers and pillage a pre irs commodore rear disc brake set up, (cant remember whats model it changes think after vp, im not a commonwhore man) backing plates caliper mounts handbrake cable etc etc leave the rotors buy new ones.
basicly all you need to have done is a half inch spacer machined up to sit against the axle housing and the calliper mount for clearance, and bolt your axles back in ( i had the local diff guy machine this spacer for me when he rebuilt my diff). but after that its all bolt on stuff no welding required. you'll need to have handbrake cable modified to suit too, cost me 60 bucks, still havnt fitted it (still too long need shortened more then 100mm) and that was 2 years ago ::)
comm stud pattern is the tiniest bit different to hq pattern so the rotor goes straight on. its all very straight forward, and makes life easier when servicing your brakes, parts readily available and cheap. i was meant to take photos of my set up ages ago for someone but never got around to it, if your interested i could take some pics, now that im unemployed ive got heaps of time on my hands.
my van has pulls up on a dime! prob better then my old mans vy
ps ive got 9'' swb drums if you want to pay freight from melb
cheers alex

Dont use HQ wheels on Crummadore studs or vise-versa, they are different, and eventually you will snap studs off.
If you go the Crummador route - replace the front as well so you can run one set of rims.

hi you miss interpreted what i said, i have hq stud pattern and hq wheels all round, just comm rotors on rear. you could always drill rotors to suit hq pattern but the comm pattern still works so i didnt.

So Alex...Just to clear up any mis-understanding :) You didnt' redrill the back rotors to HQ stud pattern, so they are still commodore stud pattern.?
-
That is the same its the dish what is different.Allan

axles are hq stud pattern and yeah the rotors are comm pattern
alex

Sounds great.... How much did the new commy rotors cost ya? ;D
-
it was a couple years ago but if memory serves me correctly 70 bucks each, better brakes in cheltenham
-
if its a big no no to put commadore rims on hq pattern it would be a big no no to put commadore disc over hq stud pattern unless there is enough play to alow the .5mm difference in the PCD and to not put any pressure on the studs.
the disc brake just slid straight on didnt it alex? if you had to hammer it on there i would say there is a problem but if not i recon it would be fine..
just thinking out loud:)

rotor slips over studs fine, no forcing required
alex
-
cool!! nice one alex!
-
Thats interesting Alex.
The holes in the discs must be a clearance fit on the wheel studs.
So then it sounds like a good conversion.
