I want to remove the gas tank, as there is a fair amount of welding to do around it.
is there a procedure for this or just turn off the valve and disconnect the wires and pipes?
-
last time my mate had to get his tested he just removed it like you say but i think their is a special tube of leak seal that you are supposed to use in gas fittings on cars when you re attach.
please correct me if im wrong.
-
Yeah that will work Worzel, once you undo the pipe, let it drain the pipes while having a coffee, use thread sealer when re-connecting, and check it with soapy water
-
youll get a small discharge from any fittin you undo yor inlet valve is one way yor outlet will have a tap before the lockoff no sparkywarky things near it an dont have a fag hangin out yor mouth ;D ;D ;D i used to test all the fittings wiv a spray bottle of water wiv a tad of washin up liquid in it . . palmolive of course so i didnt get dishpan paws ::) oops soz ross didnt see yor imparted comment above hope u use palmolive too ;D
-
most of the fittings are self sealing or olived..i found ptfe tape woz always ok the water n dishliquid will tell u straight away if something isnt sealed . .beware lpg is incredably totally an 1 of th highest of all things flammable. even static from yor curlywurlies to your nylon cacs can get it goin .1 litre of lpg mixed with the correct amount of air for combustion is equal to 24 litres of petrol in its boom value. do not treat it wiv complaciency or disregard for it volatility.. (very very very "serious icon" inserted.) an murphys law loves its volatile propertys to be sure to be sure to be sure

thanks, i'll wait till a windy day ;)

hay skippy, fag has a different meaning in the great southern land..
having one of them hanging out of your mouth while working on the beddy takes on a whole new meaning ;)
-
it would indeed be difficulterer to check the tanks date . . ;D but id be more worried about the ol ringgear gettin chewed out or sumfing at that piont ;D oh no am not goin "camping" anymore , bleat! cant kick back an chew the fat wiv uvver bugas ova beddys, an aint gonna mention any thing bout the new headjob nor owt about butting up the rear interior , but ya s got me ??? ??? on the "fag" thing sweetie ??? ??? ;) now where did i put me ciggys ::)

It's out, (not me, it)
no boomboom ;)

hey hugh ive always taken precaution when welding on a gas vehicle.. i turn the gas off
(at the tank) then start the vehicle run all the gas out of the line. then start welding... if you dont and you have any leaks the current from the mig going through the body could not be so good..
before i take any tanks out id be running the gas out like i said previously.
cheers
ben
-
oh good ,good. didnt forget an light a "CIGGY" halfway through by sounds of it then mate ;)
-
ive always just turned the tap on the tank off and disconnected and pulled them out, easy as,
-
ben . .you would still have gas in the line from your tank to the lock off before the converter as there would be no pressure from the tank to force it forward if outlet tap woz shut. if there was a leak, which you would know by the smell (thats why they make lpg smelly for that reason ) beforehand ,you then one would investigate & fix before welding, as we dont want a no armed atall ben ;) yes marty shutting tap n undoing the connection will allow the gas in the line to evaporate safely, long as one doesnt have a lighted. . .CIGGY. . . (happy able? ;D )hangin out their mouth. ;) also be aware your inlet to tank line will also always contain gas under pressure at all times . ( "very serious" icon inserted ). . cannot stress how volitile this stuff is even one micro static spark will be enough, an NEVER weld near the lines if one has to, then shield the line appropriatley or move it completly out the way. . one rarely gets a second chance with this stuff if a leak ignites an A you dont have an extiquisher at immediate hand an B can move quick enough to put it out before major damage it caused. cheers skippy

a couple of years ago, a bloke across the road from work, blew his shed up, when he was working on his car , while his potbelly was going. apparantly he had a gas leak :o Nothing left of the shed, it was like a masive bomb, he will never have a gas car in his new shed :'( ::)
-
I agree, i hate gas, in that i call it the invisable killer, you can't see it. I am going all electric in my van, no gas at all. my paranoia i guess, you just never know. The gas bbq at home, when not in use the bottle is stored in a shed down in the paddock, if it explodes then we loose the shed, not the house, chooks may not be to impressed but what can you do. lol ;D
George.
-
i totally agree with Skippy and George, gas is a very dangerous thing,
i also store my gas bottles and mower petrol in the furtherest away from the house shed, :D
but i have nightmares of my peacocks, chooks n ducks rolling them back up and under the house in the night while im not watchin, :o
-
I don't understand what all the fuss is about, gas is explosive, YES, but like all things, if treated with the respect it deserves its great stuff, and very safe.

hey marty, do you have peacocks ? we now have 7, one peahen had 3 chicks a few months ago, just in the last 2 weeks they have doubled in size. The male we call jacko, lucky guy he has 6 girls in his harem. We have wrap around verandas, and 4 acres, but guess where they love to s**t, yep you guessed it, and right in front of a door, try getting a wheelchair out the door without hitting it, lucky i have a few doors that lead to the veranda, to choose from. I tolerate them because when i go to feed the dogs of a night, they come up and sit right beside the dogs and have their meal of dog biscuits. tame as.
George.
will take a pic tonight a show you.
-
cool George,
their awsome birds hey? :)
yeah ive got 4 adult males and 10 adult female peacocks on our 5 acres.
last year i had 28 peachicks, all gone 2 good homes now,
im buying an e3 incubator this year and going 2 buy golden and amhurst phasant eggs, calafornian and king quail, and some chineese n canada geese eggs and some mandarin duck eggs.
just about any nice lookin water n game bird eggs i can get my hands on really.
ive got 1 chukka partridge and trying 2 find a few more before the season starts.
-
i was going 2 get some emu,s 2 untill the bloke i bought a few new blood peacocks off told me he bought a pair at the auctions for $800 and took em home and looked after them for a few months, they became friendly as :) untill breeding season :o, then the male kicked the crap outa him n put him in hospital with just a few kicks, ouch :( :-\ :'(,
so he took them back 2 the auction and couldnt of cared if he got $50 as long as they were gone, lol.
that made me think about it , then i thought bugger that, :D
i can understand as our mallard ducks n geese n chooks etc get angry if u go near their nests or babies ,
but an emu is a very powerfull bird,
glad i never bought any emu,s or ostriches.
-
we have geese and the males can get agro, they make better guard dogs then my dogs do lol ;D mate are they dirty buggers, they will be on the veranda and then they will just shoot crap out onto the veranda. the male will look at me when i call him a dirty bugga and stick his neck out and tell me what for. I had a spare 5000 ltr water tank here so i hooked up a pump and use that to wash the veranda after the geese and peacocks, if they catch me in a bad mood they may get a sqirt of water from the hose. lol
