Title: Coil Springs.
Post by: Bedfordcrazy on March 15, 2010, 08:36:53 AM
Hey all, welcome to another week lol I need some advice, again lol I am getting close to dropping out my 186 red, now that my V6 kit has arrived, i am going to guess that after 35yrs my front coils will be pretty much ready for new ones, can i buy NEW replacement springs ? do they make aftermarket ones to replace the front coils ? I assume that shocks are not an issue, i can get what i need there.

I suggest you don't even think about springs until you have most of your modifications completed then see how it rides with new shocks. You may have to raise or lower them depending on how much you have altered the weight at each end of the vehicle. If you do have to alter the ride height it would probably be easier and cheaper to just have your current springs re-tempered. That way you can get exactly the ride you are after.

Sorting out how the vehicle rides should be one of the last things you do otherwise you will probably find that you will have to redo them again if you do them now especially with changing the engine.

Hi Rogue, thanks mate, because i need to enter my van by the cargo door, because of wheelchair, I will be kepping the height about same. I know the height will change a bit because of new wheels and tyres so on. What I did not know was that I could re-temper my old springs, and re-use them, just paint them and spruce them up. Thanks.
George.. ;D
