Hi Guys, this is mainly for the Qld vanners, I was told through the week that there is a thing called sunday rego, for those that have hotrods and custom cars and only drive them on weekends or so, you can get this rego at a fraction of the price, has anyone heard of it ? ??? ???
Regards
George..............

someone was asking about that a month or so ago but it was based on the date of manufacture if my memory serve's.
it was something like registered for 90 days or less if it was over 30 years old or something like that at a third of the price.
so someone on here was looking into that at one stage not to long ago.

The special interest vehicle concession
The Department of Transport and Main Roads understands that some street rods and vintage cars are rarely used.
Therefore, a registration concession scheme for special categories of vehicles including motor vehicles, motorbikes and trailers was developed based on limited road use.
The following types of vehicles with either right-hand or left-hand drive may be registered under the scheme:
* vehicles that are at least 30 years old
* historic ambulances and historic fire-fighting equipment
* street rods (hot rods) — vehicles that have been modified for safe road use and have a body and frame built before 1949
* replicas of a motor vehicle, the body and frame of which were built before 1949, that is fitted with a modification plate, code LH9.
Vehicles fitted with a modification plate, code LH10 are not eligible for a special interest vehicle concession.
Failure to comply with the conditions of the special interest vehicle scheme is an offence and serious consequences may result.
Download the special interest vehicle scheme guide (PDF**, 53KB) to view the conditions and requirements of the special interest vehicle scheme.

Hi Guys, I have just spoken to qld transport about the special rego, talk about red tape and BS. You have to be in a club, you can only drive if you are going to a show or testing, can only drive so many ks from home and so on, I think I will just go for normal rego, then I can do what I want when I want, without big brother. I said to him how is anyone going to now im just cruising, if I get pulled over, because of the plates and sticker. Bedfords are about freedom, so if I have to pay $600 a year to be free so be it, this just enforces what I say, oz needs to really look at the custom car and hotrod scene, because everything government do here is to quash people doing their passion. oh well it was worth a try, this rego might be ok if you can live with the restrictions. mmmmm >:( :-\

Hi George....Im a member of a Morris car club here in W.A (Beddies are my passion now!) but we had quite a few members who had their cars on "concessional licence" which allowed them to drive on club runs and the occasional road test. These cars were generally show standard vehicles. The real advantage was if a member had more than 2 or 3 cars ,it was easy and affordable to rego them all.
cheers,,johnno ;D

Hi John, I just can not believe the sort of restrictions they have in place, I mean why should you have to go to the annual expense of club fees just to prove your van is a show van, maybe if the dipsticks in transport had a separate catagory for modifications, rego insurance for a show vehicle compared to a road car, then there would not be a problem. This is why so many people in their 4cyl egg beaters get booked for wide tyres or wrong flares and so on, because the only rule thats there is for the family car. Dont get me wrong I am not sticking up for the hoons and those that deliberatly flout the rules, but there is no garrantee I wont do everything to make a set of flares legal and then find the cops have different definition of legal. But I guess if we had a family car catagory and show catagory, that would mean more work for transport, god forebid the poor little darlings should do any work..lol ;D oops hope we dont have anyone here that works fore qld transport ;D ;D
George..............

Thats like a contradiction of terms, using the words 'work' & 'transport' department in the same sentence - and its not just limited to QLD!!
-
Yeh what was i thinking, shame shame on me...lol lol :o
George................
-
trust me transport s.a. are no better to deal with >:(
-
sa is the easiest state for dealin with. . . they just want the money ;D
-
I will probably regret saying this, but at least we dont have annual roadworthy inpections, what a scam that is, or was last time I got one in nsw, does it really get the death traps off the road ? Her is a Q. does anyone know how many states are like qld, and dont have roadworthy checks or are we the only ones. Just curious.
George......................
-
we in VIC only have roadworthys when the vehicle changes hands or is being put back on the road after its been de registed.. same as qld. SA from what i know only needs a rosdworthy if your pulled over and canaried.. WA i think is the same. NT?? ACT i think is same as VIC and QLD
-
In NZ we have a WOF (warrant of fitness).
Every six months and whenever a vehicle is sold. It costs about 40 or 50 dollars each time.
'Tiz good in that you know the ball joints etc are safe, but they can get very picky.
I knew someone whose truck failed because the windscreen washers were empty. (He changed mechanics after that)
-
Hey Jeff, the last time I was in nsw for a roadworthy, they would pick on the slightest thing, the kicker was if you did not fix it, no rego, so guess who could fix it right then and there, you guessed it, mechanics down there had one great government sponsored money making machine. There was no use going to another guy to see if he missed it, it cost you more to shop around, then to just fix it. If they picked legit things fine, so far we dont have annual checks here in QLD, yet...
George.............
-
The bonus of yearly checks is the vans stay roadworthy, and as l just bought my van not long before christmas from N.S.W. got my R.W.C. today and it cost me jack shit. A exhaust rubber and ajust the front brakes. ;D thank you N.S.W. $15 IN PARTS ;D ;D :D ;)
-
unfortunatly i would have to say roadworthys every year in nsw is a major contributing factor to the reason why there are almost no vans left in nsw. cause it costs so much to keep them roadworthy.
-
And the cost.
A CFS V8 is usually in the higher 1504kg weight class. A standard CFL van is 30kgs over into the 1504kg weight class. $406, and then green slip on top of that, ouch.

And the Premier has just announced another rego rise to for a railway screwup:

My Suzuki Carry van is 780 kg so I miss out on paying the extra.
-
Dude looking at my rego renewal for my jeep cherokee 6 cyl
$856 double ouch >:(
-
hows this, 09-10 rego for my landcruiser 100, $1100-00 for the year. ooch the van will be staying a 6cyl, thats bad enough......
George................
-
wow and i thought 500bucks for rego was out of control!!
-
Whats the worse that can happen, well I could spend thousands of dollars and 18months to build my van, only to find the rego is just out there and to much to keep the van on the road. My cruiser went from about $730 in 08-09 to a ripping $1100, all in the space of 12months. Then the darling anna captain bligh has got the hide to drive around in a chauffer driven V8 chrysler 300c fully paid for by our increased rego. Man politics is one of the all time greatest rorts, and its all legal, can't wait for voluntary voting..... ;D ;D
