Title: 1973 lwb beddy for sale
Post by: ben on January 18, 2010, 11:11:43 PM
ok so i have too many vans.. 7 at the moment.

here is the first one to go. best tow van ive ever owned. needs work, im fishing for $5,500.

tommorow it goes on ebay. cause rego runs out in 5 days (opps didnt think it was that quick)

done about half the stuff on the roadworthy but just dont have time or the money to finish it off. main items are gas tanks out of date, oil leaks from rocker covers and change seats over, new windscreen. everything else is minor.

the specs

Lwb beddy 1973.
307 chev,
turbo 400 auto,
chev 12 bolt rear end
high rise performance manifold,
gas carby
electronic ignition,
pacemaker extractors,
full set of vdo guages,

custom 1 piece back door,
deep dish dragway mags worth 1,000 bucks without tyres
custom van craft easy roller front
rear easy roller wing,
4 seater,
twin gas tanks, 120ltr capacity

more stuff i just cant think at midnight.

now the vans been engineered with a different small block chev (i pulled it out cause it needs work) and the 2 extra seats in the back, the paper work is with vic roads.

the bloke before me had a bit of an accident in the this van at 40km/h. i had ever intention of fixing it up but got too much on the go. so the panel damage goes with the van. its on drivers side in the photo (he paid 9k for this van a few years back)

if your interested give us a call. 0430053679

bit of a regretful sale but then again im always regretful selling a bedford. so meh..

cheers
ben

Sounds good to me but you would have to modify it so as to make it electric wheel chair friendly plus other mods(long list)

Hey petrol, beleive it or not, it would not take much to get your van set up to drive it yourself. Mate if i can do it, you can. Here is what you need:

The will to want to drive again:
The right people around you to advise you:
And do your homework b4 you do anything:

And the rest will fall into place, I spent 10yrs designing and dreaming b4 i lifted the first tool, so when we did i new exactly what had to be done, and did it - or, the right people did. Dont get me wrong, i have no legs but i have 2 hands, and they get just as dirty as the guys i bring in. Now my years of dreaming are a reality, everytime i go down to my workshop, and look at the van.

Hey johnno, if you can wait a bit, i am sending the van to the goldcoast just after xmas for painting, and i will be bringing in a skip to get rid of the garbage & left over bits, i will be hitting the floor with a fire hose and giving it a spruce up b4 the freshly painted van comes home ready for re-assembly, so i will get my wife to get some pics for you when we clean up.

George being in a aged care facility at the age of 45 all I've got is time to think. I can drive an automatic car no problems at all, as I'm only paralized down the left side, the problem is that they have to hoist/crane me in and out of the vehicle. After going out in a maxi taxi in my electric wheel chair it got me thinking, if I set up a van like a maxi taxi then I could wheel myself to the steering wheel and drive from the steering wheel. Now if I got a high roof Beddie and fitted it with a one piece remote activated rear door and a tail lifter that would get me inside the van, TL engineering supply & fit tail lifters & they also make a locking mechanism to lock the wheel chair in place next problem

Hand brake,
Can't reach it and it's on the left side, problem solved by using the hand brake from a HQ Holden 6cyl manual with a bench seat. Their hand brake is on the right side of the seat and has a rod going under the seat to the mechanism in the centre of the vehicle then all that has to be done is extend the handle so that I can reach it while in my chair

Disc Brakes & Power Steering
Still looking at the Jag option either front only or front and rear

Dual Controls
As per street sweepers where there is a steering wheel and set of pedals on the passenger side, this is for my own piece of mind so that if anything happened my co-pilot could take over not that it would, it's been 3 years since I've had any prob's. I've found a place in Myaree that does these conversions so will be speaking with them

So have I missed anything?

Power windows & keyless entry/central locking, all available through AutoLoc

There is one thing, you wont have a drivers seat, that will be empty except for the lockers for your chair, so a bench seat is out. For the handbrake you could go for an electric brake. As for the chair loader, a cheaper way is to just have your rear door as the ramp, being an electric chair you can drive up the ramp than close the ramp, will save you about 5grand. By the sound of things, i am guessing you are going to need a war chest of at least 20-30 thousand to do the lot, let me know what they quote you. Curiosity.

It would be good with no drivers seat, perfect theft discouragement, I looked at using the rear door as a ramp and did some calculations, way too steep, so back to the tail lifter. Seating for the passenger side I was thinking of a bucket/half bench that were used in Nissan/Ford utes. The hand brake idea will work but I will look into an electric unit.Yea a van and these mods are an expence that I can't afford, but if I get all the costings together I intend on submitting them to the independent living centre to see if I can qualify for a Lotterys West grant so hear's hoping, the only problem is the Beddie is an OLD van which might discourage them

Hi Clint....There is a swb van about a block from where i live, that i enquired about and the young girl who owned it was a paraplegic. She bought the van before her accident  to do up along the theme of scooby doo.She was in the army working as a mechanic when it happened. And as part of her payout they would only pay for a new vehicle to be modified for her. So she still has the van unlicenced and doing nothing(shame) :'

BUGA BUM POO WEE!!!
After doing all the reaserch and finding out that EVERY thing that I wanted to modify on a Beddie to suit my requirements was possible and that I would qualify for a Lottery West Grand of $20,000 it has all been knocked on the head. The rego boys will not allow OLD vehicles to be used as disabled vehicles. I explained that I would be going through the whole van so it will be "as new" but rules are rules, new or not at all, now that's way out of my price range even with the grant. Being cheeky I asked if I could still get the grant to cover the VERY expensive Maxi Taxi bills, you can guess what the answer was. If anybody out there wants a cruizy job get yourself a Maxi Taxi you can pick up wheel chair and non wheel chair customers and as for competition, there is only two(2) south of the river. Want to know what they charged me for a return trip from the Burswood Dome to Waikiki with my 75% discount book?.......$180.00, now that's tough when you'r on a disability pension

i am no cabbie, but do know a few, and only talking qld here, they might be charging that per person, but at the end of the shift, they hand over more then 55% of their takings + cab hire fees + pc hire fees + insurance and it goes on and on, so if they do a 12 hr day they are only taking $30 in every $100, why they do the job i dont know, it is one of the all time con jobs, so to speak. That 55% is no matter what you bring in, and the others are on top of the 55%. not for me.
