Title: Discs and other stuff
Post by: Leif wilson on January 08, 2010, 03:10:46 PM
Hi All..

I'm just starting work on my Bedford LWB cf250 1978 that i've had for a year now and love.

the first problems are with suspension.
I live in Sydney and I've gone into Heasmans for the first look over and it's going to cost me a small fortune ($4k+) for 4 shocks, all new bushings and some of the mountings for the rear leaf springs which are in danger of coming loose and puncturing my LPG tanks.

The bigger shock came tho when i got a quote to fix the brakes with 6x brake cylinder rebuilds, re-lined shoes and ideally new drums  coming to $1.5k - $2k.... this seems a bit extreme to me. i figure there must be new cylinders available rather that $100 each!!!! for repairing them.

If it starts to get to that Id like to look into if there is a standard mod to fit discs.

Please let me know what you think because this really blows.

another thing i'm looking into is substitutes for engines and gearboxes.
I have a red motor 202 and a tri-matic on LPG/Petrol in this and it crawls on the highway.
A new gasket kit for the carburettor wouldn't go astray either as the acc pump is stuffed....

would love it if anyone knows an enthusiast mechanic in the greater sydney area or north up the coast.

wont be going anywhere without brakes tho.......

I appreciate any advice you can give.

cheers
Leif

Hi and welcome to the site.

You need to use the search function as most of what you are asking has been covered many times before.

hey Leif, welcome aboard.

i am overwhelmed at some of the prices that peopl get quoted for cf stuff. my advice is do it yourself. still expensive for cf parts but at least you cut out the even more expensive bit the labor. working on a cf is quite straight forward. and there are heaps of people on this site waiting to help you out with advice.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I'm living in bondi and those bastards atill have my baby with no end in sight.
Beddmad. Dead keen to have a chat If you have time. Do I need to make any special mods to take those parts if I have a LWB? If you can recommend anyone who can do the work as well I'd be stoked. Not really set up for working on it myself living in a small flat but I may be able to get some machining done if needed.

The big question with mods is certification but once it is certified on one car it's easier on another.

If you can post your number or give me buzz. 0420558797 I'd apreciate any advice.

Cheers
Leif
