Title: Funny power steer story
Post by: BlackBedford on December 09, 2009, 08:14:20 PM
G'day

I went to the local transmission place to book the dual cab in for a service and the boss had a funny story about CF power steering.
His mate runs a workshop in Sydney where a bloke brought in a CF camper wanting more go so they installed a V6 motor and box. The customer was happy with the go, but wanted power steer so they fitted up the Commodore rack doing a very neat job of it. It wasn't until they went to drive it out of the workshop thaty they realised that the rack worked the wrong way around.
Now this is the interesting bit.
Apparantly they fitted a Ford Territory rack and it worked fine.
I am chasing up more info on it.

hahahahahahahahaha. someone missed out on a very important piece of information.

reminds me of the time we had the family boat steering all recoed at one of the local mechanics.. some of the blokes there had nothing between the ears, the first time we took it for a cruise we noticed pretty quickly the steering was hooked up backward!!!

not to mention the othertime one of thier "mechanics" put transmission fluid in the brake system of the old mans toyota coaster bus and totally stuffed it. cost $2000 to get the brake system rebuilt and it was never as good again!!

G'day

I just got back from a trip accross the outback of NSW. I saw a mate who told me a similar story about some lads doing up an old Jeep CJ40. Did a really good job of fitting the V6 motor and power steering. It wasn't until they went to drive it out of the shed they realised it turned the wrong way. They fitted a Cortina power rack. I dont know where you would find one of them.
