Hey fellas (and ladies?)
I'm not really sure how many of you are still running the 202s, but for those that are, this may interest you..

As of this year the HQ racing regulations have changed, and no longer allow the use of heads with a volume lower than 45cc, without having to make major changes in other areas.

So for those that had heads under 45cc it is easier to just do up a new head than it is to mess around with deck/piston heights etc.

If you are keen on a new head for your 202 i recommend getting in contact with your local HQ racing club and speaking to some of the front running guys, as the midfielders probably had 45-55cc heads before hand anyway. The front runners could have anything available (We have about 4-5 heads with 36cc and one or two with 39-40cc) (we aren't actively looking to sell tho - so keep your hands off)

The racing heads have usually had a decent amount of work done, within the guide lines of the regulations.

The racers have probably spent anywhere between $200-500 on doing up the head, but now aren't able to use them anymore, so you may well be able to score a bargain.

Depending on how your motor is currently setup a 40cc head could give you a decent compression, we have 12.5:1 with a 40cc head last year, and we used the 36cc heads upto 14:1. Obviously the height of the pistons influences the compression greatly..

173 high compression head with $400 bucks for over sized valves/hardened seats for gas and new bits and bob's is better compression on a 202 then this?

i guess that depends on what volume a 173 head has.
however, with one of the racing heads, you'll most likely get the light weight racing valves, strong valve springs, the intake/exhaust ports will be faced upto the max allowable etc..
and the chances are that you'll be getting all this for far less than what it cost..

And it's race proven. But i wouldn't be spending $400 on just valves...

I'd be trying to swindle a head out of a racer for $150-$300 depending on how many are available..

Thats just me tho

this is a photo of a blue 173 head and a black 202 head

this is a link (http://oldholden.com/node/59547) to a bit of information about the heads here, but as you can see the 173 might have a lower volume than a standard 202 head, but will have more restrictive flow, this is where a race head will shine  ;) I think looking at the 173 head, it is still going to be more than 45cc, certainly more than 36cc
