Title: advertising
Post by: TOOLKING on October 19, 2009, 07:01:21 PM
Hey guys,
I thought that I should put this to all the members and moderators to see the feelings..
I have a tool store and do a lot of exhibitions throughout the year all around australia, any way to support our business we have started building a website and are doing mail order.
we have over 4000 items in stock( not all one the site yet but are getting them on there slowly)
I would be interested in putting our site on the Buga site and would hapily  pay an advertising fee or sponsorship .......
just wondering how you all feel about it. no har feelings if you say no.
I could offer all Buga Memebers a vip card as well which gives you a discount should you ever want to buy anything
Now I like most people hate all those pop ups and unrelated ads that are on websites but tools are kinda related to beddies i guess
let me know your thoughts
if you want to check out my site it is www.toolking.com.au (http://www.toolking.com.au)

regards
Heath

Not a bad idea but ultimately it is up to the site owner what and if any format of advertising is allow.

I'n not sure if Craig (Hammers Spanners) is still the site owner or wether this has passed to ShaneJ

A community supporting its members is always a good thing though.

So long as the advertising doesn't involve being inserted between posts like on the JustCommodores forum because although I appreciate that they need to fund their site it is really really annoying.

yes I would like to see some sponsored sites on here but (only my opinion) only on the front page or opening page, don't think I'd like pop up's evrywhere........ 8)

would like to do one meself in the future.....trim bits n pieces....

Craig still hasn't passed on the domain name to me but I have control of the hosting.

How about a logo down the bottom of the page?

I have added a test banner up the top of the page. What do you guys think?

With this module I can supply stats like how many times the banner has been clicked etc

Shane

In that format it is pretty unobtrusive, but what happens if you get multipal sponsors ?

I'm of two minds.

Got a few different options I guess. The common option is to just randomly display the different banners in the selected location. Its also possible to display different banners in different locations. I like the first option myself.

Just for your interest, this is the kind of stats I can give:

Banner Name      Impressions Made      Impressions Left      Clicks      % Clicks
Tool King                 1783                                      unlimited                       4                   0.224

Banner Name: The name of the advertiser
Impressions Made: The number of times the banner has been loaded/displayed to the page viewer
Impressions Left: The advertiser can purchase a number of impressions
Clicks: The number of times the banner has been clicked on
% Clicks: the ratio of clicks to impressions

I am a little teensy weensy concerned that this site is developing into something it was not intended to be, commercialism in its entirety belongs elsewhere, just be mindful what occurred regarding the N.Z. fibreglass saga and how it had adversely affected loyal and valued contributors.

I kinda feel the same Eddy although I'm not in the best frame of mind at the moment to comment on it too much. I had hopes to getting a professional template for the site and forums eventually and this all cost money. As does the hosting and domain leasing. Currently I'm forking out for the hosting which is currently about $125 for the year so not expensive but some donations would be appreciated specially now I'm out of a job for a bit  :(

Sorry to hear about your working life  Shane.

On another site I visit, they have donating members, not much difference in what they can do, add personal avatars I think, but they do get a tag that highlights them as a donating member.

I'm happy to contribute to the running of this site in any one way I can, donating some buks is an easy way of doing it :d

I dont mind throwing a few $ in to keep the site going,  no one member should be out of pocket if we are all benifiting from the site working.

Cheers

If you are looking for a web site host for free ben and also as easy to create as an email with attachments then take a look at www.webs.com (http://www.webs.com)

I was told to give it a try for our local club web site (www.vanzunlimited.webs.com (http://www.vanzunlimited.webs.com)) and it really was easy to set up as they give online tutorials and heaps of advice if you get stuck, only took me with limited computer literacy a couple of nights to get it up and going and is easy to update.

hope this helps if you are keen

Cheers Jeff

A lot of car clubs and websites i have been involved with sell stickers/decals to make some money for the site, it alsohelps to promote when everyone has one on their car.

I do like the idea of sticker but from memory (the research i did a while ago) you had to get a lot made up to make
any sought of money from it and if you can't move them your going to lose money.

but if some one wants to get them made then I would be more then happy to buy some.

When i finally get a job, i'll be happy to chip in money..

but in the meantime, stickers that say "My other ride is a Bedford" would be sweet.. you could throw buga.com.au on the bottom
