Title: Brake Master Cylinder/Booster
Post by: Clance on July 19, 2009, 09:19:18 AM
Hi Ya All,
I'm chasing a standard brake master cylinder or a complete booster for a "drums all round" Beddy, Would prefer it to have been reconditioned.
Or if any ony can tell me where to get the rebuild kit or a replacement that will suit without to much muckin around to fit that would be great too.
Cheers,
Clance

Hi Clance
my lockhead master broke in 2007, i couldn't find a new master or parts to recondition my broken one.
a thread on the old buga site recomended a torana LJ booster and master, i could only find an LH booster at he time and it works well, there was also talk of ford xy and other model masters but i dont know what boosters they were on
if you do change to the torana gear you have to adjust the booster mount holes in the firewall with a round file, only by a few mm and i had to shorten the rod attatched to the pedal and drill a hole through it to pin it onto the peda. anyway this is all covered in the thread

i am running drums all round on a torana master
i cant remember exactly, but in the outlet where the pipe screws in for the front brakes, we either put in or took out a small valve that changes the flow of brake fluid and this made the torana master cylinder suitable for drums on the front
i'm glad you picked that up Ben, cause i'd forgotten and  remember it was a last minute thing that would have caught me out at the time if the guy i bought the master off hadn't mentioned it
obviously Clance, if you can get good parts or reco it then thats easier, but this was, at the time and place, the easiest for me and it has worked for those who told me

i would think its easier to go torana kav!.. nice one. thanks for that info. probably never go back to drums but its handy to know.

anything we can do to get away from pricey bedford parts the better.

as above the drum brake torana had a restriction valve in the front brake setup
the master cylinder is basically the same for HK/HT/HG/HQ etc and TORANA LC/LJ/LH/LX
all interchangeable so plenty of choices
there are several diff boosters single (6 cyl) and double diaphram for V8s
would suggest the easiest to get and the cheapest is the LH/LX 6 cyl
bought my HQ disk conversion couple of weeks back and have good choice of Torana brake units
so this was a very useful thread
