Title: Pom with a CF2
Post by: suterman on June 14, 2009, 05:23:31 AM
Hey Guys,

My name is Mike Suter,

I was heavily into Volvos for a few years,

Just sold my last one a month back due to the fact my wife and I found this great camper.

some of my Volvos..

My last one, a 1991 GL that I converted to a turbo with the help of some friends from turbobricks.com.

When I got it.

After..

Looks shit but went like shit off a shovel!

Anyway, the Van in question is a 1985 CF2 280, 2 litre, 3 speed auto, its a MURVI conversion,

I have since fitted some Wolfrace Slotmags that I got off a guy on  Retrorides, they needed some alteration to fit though, my hubs are a little different, they are 14x1.5 studs, (heavy duty?)   the front wheels needed a bit turning out of the centres to fit over the spigot and elongating of the stud holes as they were 150mm pcd. The rears needed a spigot spacer ring making up as the centres were 100mm. But anyway lot of money, f***ing about and  a set of BFGoodrich later and I have a really sexy looking cf.! ;D

I am glad to have found this place as the UK Cf forum is a little conventional and I really like the Aussie taste for modifications and attitude to spannering.

Thanks to Shane for sorting out my account troubles.

Nice rig Mike, love the wheels and the captains chairs, is it still the 2.3   4cyl?

"ex volvo nut"
reminds me of a guy I met while in england, who was into tractors, in fact he lived for them, until one day he got run over by one, then wanted nothing to do with them. We went to a niteclub  and one of the girls complained how smokey it was so he said I'll fix that. He stood up and took the biggest longest breath in, and sucked all the smoke out of the club, went outside and exhaled all the smoke.
When he came back in and sat down the girls said how did you do that??
he said easy,  I'm an 'ex tractor fan' ;D ;D ;D

G'day

Welcome aboard.
I too am a Volvo tragic.
I miss my 740 Turbo with a high performance motor and 4 speed with overdrive.
Picture this:
100s of kms from nowhere,
good straight bitimen,
Higher profile tyres on the back to significantly increase the top speed,
Playing Autobahn by Kraftwerk loudly on the excellent factory sound system,
Engine revs at 5000 and turbo boosting.
How fast was I going? Who knows, I remember that the 10km distance signs were zipping past in under 3 minutes. They were very fast trips.

Regards

Gday Mike....That is one tidy Bedford you have there. :o Those mags and tyres are the best.!!
I used to have an old 83 volvo 240 wagon .Hated the motor ,loved the brakes ,ride and the small turning circle. Blew a head gasket, tried to fix it on the cheap but didnt work so sold it of for 50$
Have seen the light and changed to beddies....no turning back now ;D ;D ;D ;D

Cheers for the welcome.

Hotrod, its a 2.0 litre, its quite slow but tootles along happily at 80kph

Blackbedford, Yeah, they're quick with the boost turned up, you'd be doing about 230kph I reckon. Part of the reason I sold mine was because I was going to loose my licence if I didn't stop driving it.

I had a feeling there would be some (ex) volvo guys on here.  8)

Cheers ;D  I need to get some flared arches now,

Its not an MOT (Annual inspection) issue to have the tyres sticking out like that but at the same time its against the law (bizarrely)

Ben, no one makes them over here, until I found this place I was on the lookout for a pair of used ones from a twinwheel (hens teeth) and wasn't holding much hope of finding any but I noticed there are some fibreglass ones for sale, I need to look into it and make sure I get the right ones.

Bullstick, yeah thats the one! thats me in the passenger seat. (check out my other vids!)

I did not mean that cf2 are better ben,as we all know there are getting harder to get a good clean van here in australia.
Where over in n.z. and u.k. there are lots more to pick from. ;)
