G'day fellow CF campa owners and interested parties,
make no mistake the humble CF camper van is one of the best kept CF secrets.
I have owned 12 CF vans and the camper I was lucky enough to find is by the BEST I have had, it may not have the looks of the custom vans or the desireability but for real practicality along with the durability of the CF, it cannot be beaten. This site will cater for all those interested in campers & motorhomes, I am by no means an expert in the field so I am looking forward to being advised by and sharing information with those that are. So post up your q's and topics because from what I have learnt so far during my build is that there are a lot of additional q's relating to campers and motorhomes, ...... happy camping

Hey eddy, well this our 2nd motorhome which we are still working on alot of the cancer hidden up, the 1st was a real buetty I'll post a few pics of it soon as i find the thread about posting pics, as you say the cf campers can't be beaten, iam glad they have included this section so you can get ideas from other campers and spots to camp as well, when the caravan and motorhome show was on a few years back we went to get ideas but at the end of the day it was the same thing over and over all look the same and if anyone farts in there no where to run and hide just suck it up no room, i'll get about posting those pics to show you
cheers snow

Hey Snow,
great to have you on board, I know what you mean about the caravan show, we went to this years at Caulfield and it was the same old story, it seems big budget sales get looked after and not much info sharing for the others. Where are you located ? be a good idea to do basic introductions and pics of our campers, hoping that this section develops into a great place for info sharing with CF owners who are out there doing it. I have a few pics of my vans in the Gallery section, I'll take some more this weekend and get them posted here.

Yeah Snow, I agree, life is way too short. The simple things in life are the most valued, I have never spent big budget and the beddie camper is as able as a big budget motorhome. And you can park it in the supermarket carpark, some of my best remembered moments are weekends away and having a cooktop and fridge and a bed in the campa, real simple stuff ;)

Hi Eddy & other Camper owner's I got my 1976 SWB Pop Top about 2 months ago from QLD had to get it blue slipped to rego in NSW it just passed so is fulley regoed now I started out by completly stripping it out inside found a little rust under pedels have cut it out & repaired it properley welded up all the rivert holes that held the flooring down replaised the rear beaver panel with a new one that I got off a mate who had it hanging on his shed wall It was the onley panel on the van that was dinted Next week I will be spraying the complete floor with stone guard then new flooring & then new fitout There are photos of my van in the gallery & I will post more as I finish the jobs Cheers Restoreid
-
G'day Restoreid, had a look at your van in the gallery, nice work your doing there, good to hear that you have yours on the road, I recently decided to let my rego slip and intend now to do a rebuild before shes back on the road ( we have two other regos so the V8 was the first to let go), I will take the V8 out and replacing it with a black efi 202, working on some rust repairs but the camper won't fit in the garage so have to wait for a change in the weather before doing any major work, great to have you on board ...
-
Hi Eddy & campa owners Been outa touch for a while my computa decided to have a heartattack needed a new mother board the man hopped it up a bit for me so I dont have any trouble putting photos on now Been working on it flat out finished the floor & the little bit of rust in the lower rear wheel arch I posted some more photos in my gallery so you can see where im up to & also where I work on it NO good in bad weather I will post more picks as i go Cheers Reid

cheers restoreid, great to have back ;D

had a look at tyour gallery nice work on the interior, great when you can achieve a clean surface to work on, did you do a total strip job of the interior or was it empty when you got the campa?
-
It's good to see the campers going strong! I never paid much attention to them on the old site, it was hard to see alot of things on the old site... lol
You boys have tempted me somewhat, especially after seeing Clance's van it was a real 'G' up... I want to get a SWB Van or SWB Cab Chassis to use as my daily and then take my LWB off the road and start transforming it. I'm tossing up whether or not to go Camper setup or to go deluxe passenger vehicle, or a mix of both... 6 single seats that transform into a bed and a table with all sorts of mod cons built into all of the nooks and crannies. At this stage who knows? but you have inspired me and that's all that is needed... ;)
-
hey Jock, the beauty with beddies is that yu can do heaps with the interior space, I owned mainly custom street vans that carried tools during the week and dirt bikes and little people on weekends, since gaining the campa I have discovered an entirely new world of comfort and convenience, wouldn't go back to a standard custom interior now, i have spent too many weekends away in my own motel room on wheels, nothing like backing up to a beach or river, doing what ever it is your into then opening the back doors, cooking a hot meal, grabbing a coldie or two or three out of the fridge and throwing the dirty dishes in the sink and laying back on the bed for a nana nap .... even better now that me got a great audio system and dvd player ...... I've only ever stayed in a couple of caravan parks and it was great to be able to close the doors and lock out the holiday crowd ...... yep gimme da good life ;D
-
Eddy,
I hear what your saying... I use mine for transporting my dirtbikes to and from ride spots and have slept in it a couple of times, it's got those lugs on the side of the roof for an awning so I just wack a tarp up and stretch it out to a couple of tree branches and the van becomes the 'base station' we eat, sleep, cook, drink, smoke - all in and around the van. It's got some good low watt interior lights that make a nice but very yellow light.
My CF just won't stop impressing me! My missus is O/S at the moment which left me to move house solo.
A bit of a slog but the Beddy just ate my home contents! 3 trips and it was done, quite amazing how much you can fit into the CFL.
I'm thinking deck the interior and tow the bikes with a trailer.
There is just so much room in the back I don't think I can help myself - I gotta deck it out!

I don't own a camper, but I do have a LWB. I go away to work in it from anywhere between a couple of days to a few weeks. Tools go under the Queen bed so they're never in the way. And with duel batteries, inverter, fridge, good strereo, wirless broadband and DVD I'm in heaven and wherever I go.
-
Hi Eddy the campa was a complete factory fitout but had been changed a few times & was way past its useby date so i completly stripped it out tried to find the original Ebay photos but they are long gone will be putting the steering shifter & seats back in tomorrow get it mobile again & go get the ply for the floor & walls & start the fitout it will be easy as I am a joiner by trade Cheers Reid
-
onya Resto... I am a carpenter so fitting out was easy for me as well, not so much talent on the mechanical side though, I tend to work the probs as they arise but have learnt alot during the journey. Are you replacing it as standard or thinking of designing something entirely different from original? have a look at my gallery there are a couple of interior shots, the bed/sette is at the front only because this model does not come with a side door, I have had beds at the back doors but it was restricting in what you could load. I like the idea of the cabinets in the rear doors though they are real handy, there are other campa owners who I am sure are only too eager to share tips what works what doesn't etc .... take care Eddy
-
Hi Eddy yes my campa was fitted out the same as yours but it has the side door wich was unusable it was all stuffed pineboard turned to weetbix so it all came out I'm going to completly change it around I have moved the windows to the back & will be putting single beds down each side the one on passenger side will encroach on side door a bit but my missus is only short so I will make it about 5 foot 6 inches long Down the back between the beds there will be a shower toilet cubicle The fridge will go at the end of the other bed behinde drivers seat & I hope there will be enough room on the side door for some kinde of kitchen hope to make the seats swivel 90 degrees so we can use them to eat at in bad weather Thjere wont be much room in there but I think i can get it all in heres hoping Cheers Reid

sounds good, the shower will be an interesting set up with the pop top, have you looked at the newer campas, they have a kitchen cabinet that swings out when the side door is opened., gives an option of inside or outside cooking, will the kitchen be too heavy for the door hinges?, also when you are parked on any sort of a slope the angle is much greater when the side door is opened at 90 degrees to the van body, may cause the contents of your saucepans to spill out, it is a good idea to put an awning on the pop top so when its up you have a protected area when cooking out of the van, its better to cook with the side door at right angles as it gives you a wind break, if its open fully you will be standing outside the awning, just a thought. I would prefer a side door on my campa but too much trouble to adapt whats there so all our access is rear door only not as handy if you want to sit under an awning attached to the side of the pop top but we normally tow a trailer with us that has a cooking bench and water and gas, also carries a canoe/wind surfers and moutain bikes and a little 1970s 80cc motorbike if we need to. Missus is still set on a caravan though so maybe this summer its me on my lonesome out camping ;) she doesn't like the bed in the campa reckons its not a motel size. does me though,
-
Yeah Eddy iv seen thoes thats the ideah the heavy stuff will go in a drawer under the part of the bed that encroaches the side door it will slide inside & out it already has a slide on awning so it will be cool eating outside Cheers Reid
-
Hey Eddy as you'r campa is set up the same as mine was where are your batteries mine was under the passingers seat but I had to shift it as i cut down the bases to suit the new seats the batteries were never underneath because there must have been a water tank there originally & no room for a battery As my new water tank will be going inside under the bed approx 80 Ltrs I think I will make a new box that will hold 3 battries & put in the original place Cheers Reid

ben

Yeah its the worst thing about QLD vehicles because they dont have to be tested every year they seem to let them go & being on the coast dosent help mine was from the Gold coast too but it must have spent most of it's life inland not much rust at all It would be a shame to see that one binned as it has had a lot of work done and a lot of time spent on it & the interior fitout looks quite good it look's fixable you would have to get cheep Cheers Reid
-
orhh looks like a little too much rust :-\
-
hey reid you guys are the only lucky ones that have your vehicles roadworthyed every year..
ben
-
Now now Benny Boy! It's not EVERY year brother...
-
oh isnt it? how often?
-
You have to get a Road Worthy Certificate (RWC) or commonly referred to as a 'blue slip' when transferring vehicle registrations for the new registration in your name you must have a RWC for the car to be registered. This invloves a vehicle inspection and test drive, brake test etc
Once you have done that then as long as you don't let the registration lapse you don't need to get another RWC until you sell the vehicle, however the vehicle can be sold without a RWC as long as you state in your advertisement or sale receipt that the vehicle is being sold 'as is' or without RWC.
If you have a registered vehicle and you let the rego run out you have 3 months (i think) to re-register the vehicle.
If you go beyond this 3 months you will need to get a new RWC in order to re-register the vehicle.
With new model vehicles once they are over 3 years old they require a Safety Inspection Report or ‘pink slip’ before they can be re-registered.
Check this:
http://www.geared.com.au/cars/C9-is-your-car-worthy.aspx
I'm not sure if I'm right here - PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, but the way I see it is that if you never let your registration lapse you will never have to worry about getting a RWC... Is this the case?
Jock
-
hey jock were talking about NSW yeh? i thought yous needed a blue slip every year?
ben
-
Hey guyes NSW every year a roadwearthy pink slip before you can renew your regoCheers Reid
-
oh so pink and blue are different slips?
so i asume the pink ones are like take a kick of the tyres and a press on the brake pedal.. thats what us vics hear?? not sur if its true or not..
ben
-
Yeah Ben Pink slip test is a general safty check like tires brake test front end check inspect for RUST check horn lights seat belts cracks in wscreen we have that every year Now biue slip is like going over the pits a very thourough check over thats for unregoed cars & chainging states I had to get a blue slip check as mine was from QLD had to get weigh bridge ticket to You have to get engineers certificate & blue slip for any modifications you do also hope this clears up the confusion Cheers Reid
-
yep sounds great.. still glad im in vic thou hehe mods galoor!!!! just drive the other way when you see a cop lol.. and have a spare vehicle at home just incase lol.
