im using the same bell housing/clutch from my three speed for my four speed but i seem to have run into a problem...
i just lifted the old 186 with the gearbox still attached from my front end and their seems to be a slot/hole at the top of the bell housing.
im suspecting it should not be there????
if it is due to wear would it be from rubbing on the beddy frame somewhere or from inside?
if is needs to be fixed it would need to be tig wielded yes?
can supply photo if needed.

ok then....
seemed rough around the edges like it was due to wear...
what is it a breather? do i just leave it or is it supposed to have a hose with a filter to keep out the dust?
-
Leave it, must be a breather.

G'day
I was reliably informed that it was to relieve air pressure buildup at very high speeds and is standard on most bellhousings. It is only roughly cast as the air doesnt care.

thanks all.
im officially pretending its not there ;)

pretending whats not there?
