Yea like your green Dano if its the same green you had on the door jambs before.
Maybe instead of 2 tone what about tribal flames in silver and gold with some black highlights for defintion?
Just a thought.

thats a great idea Dano, give the blokes a sample of the paint color from another high quality image so they can give an accurate depiction, then we can use the image to motivate you to paint the van. then you can drive us around in it for weeks on end without stopping.

Hey Rogue, and outriding, you are dead right, they dont fit, we spent a wasted day trying, and they could of, but would of looked s**t house, so i did not run with them. I just thought we could do a photoshop to see what i missed out on. I now have settled for a new set of lights and they look good, not mickey mouse, but i like them as a plan B. Here is why they did not fit.

Title: Re: Request your chops!
Post by: Bedfordcrazy on September 07, 2010, 11:21:58 AM
we spent 7hrs deforming and abusing that corner, trying everything to get them to work, in the end i had to give in, and go to plan B. The lights i am using now are more of a flat panel intall, so we dont have the problem of curves. I really wanted something that no one else had used or thought of, if we had of pulled it off, it would of been good. I have to say that plan B is original, i have not seen them on any other van or car. We have them tacked in at the moment, so when my metal guy turns up again, we are going to finish them off once and for all.

george why you so keen on doing something original? who cares if someone 2000kms away has the same tail lights as you?? well i dont anyway. i couldnt care if they wanted to reproduce my whole van..  beddys are original! a million people will be like wow ive never seen one of those before.  theydont give a stuff about your original taillights.

just my opinion thou.

Hey benny, mate i agree sort of, who cares if someone copies mine, and they will copy bits i suppose when they see the finished van. And if i replicated everything out there already, mine would be just another van, and no one would take a second look. There is 2 trains of thought, 1 being guys like you that restore and keep the daily drivers on the road, then there is the other side, guys that like to customise, and create something different. There is no right or wrong ben, just think if i wanted to have the same grill and lights and scooby flare kits as a lot of other vans, mate mine would of been finished by now, and half the price. I could of stuck with drum brakes instead of disc, but it is just a personal choice, which is what beddys are for me. All i know benny is, that for over 20yrs i have had just one dream, and now i am doing it, although slowly. For me beddy's are a real passion, not just something to drive, for me i feel something when i am driving my van, when people stop you and ask about the van. I guess for me, this comparison, the last hotrod show i went to, 80% of the cars were commodores and falcons, half had engines sticking out of the bonnet, and the rest spent thousands on their motors and wheels, and peanuts on the paint and body, point is, by the time i had looked at 20 or so cars, the next 20 were the same as the first 20, i was'nt seeing anything different, i heard one couple say the same thing, lets go, they are all the same.  At the end of the day we all have a thought on what is a good looking van, just on here there are so many ideas, most vans on here are daily drivers, but look at how many ways people do their daily drivers. I guess when i show my finished van on here ben, some will love it, some wont, but people will comment on my mirrors, grill, lights so on, everyone will have an opinion, 6months later i will be enjoying it, and we will be commenting on someone elses van. Vans on here are like the people, we are all different, that life.  ;D

A nearly standard Beddie is a joy to drive and own, but a custom one is all that, and also a work of art.
The creator is an artist whose medium is metal (and who also has a Bedford fetish) ;D

fair enough george:)

my dad has 2 vans he is gunna sink reasonable money into to last him the rest of his life and pass them onto me:) so im happy. notto say im gunna hang around and wait till then i wanna end up with 3 beddies.

1 rough ratrod beddy, but still daily driver

1 lwb reasonable practicle

1 show van.. will beworking up to that one lol.

im just not fussy i guess:)

Benny that is the beauty of being a car lover, i recon if we all had an unlimited beddy build account i recon we would all do at least one custom job. I wish i had a parent to leave me a beddy or 10. lol You had better work on getting a big block of land ben to kep them all on.  ;D ;D

I completely agree, its as much and MORE about being unique as it is about being custom.
Custom is great amongst the general public, as they know no better so they misinterpret it for being unique.
However, Unique is just that. Car buffs, connoisseurs, and other owners can spot it from a mile off.

I have 2 of which that irk me.. ZB tail lights, I get alot of compliments from the general public as being a great change from the norm - and they're right. Though about 50% of the vans from the 70's have them. they look great, but i WILL change them.
The XC grille, looks awesome, and most of the general public talk about it like no one has ever even thought of doing such a thing.. but we all know how common it is.. I WILL be changing this too.

Not everyone is as adamant as I am, but if I wanted to drive the same car as everyone else I'd buy a commodore

I'm in Ben's camp. If it's a tried and true conversion and works well then why not use it. I just don't see the point of re-inventing the wheel unless of course it can be improved upon or you have endless scree's of cash that you really have nothing else to spend it on. There are many places you can add a touch of your own personality.

Maybe the difference lies in that I'm building my van for me. I want something that is as reliable as possible and I am happy driving and I have loved vans since my teens. I really don't give a crap what anyone else thinks. Always appreciate the good comments and constructive criticism don't get me wrong but as far as I'm concerned if you don't like what I'm doing don't tell me because I'm not even remotely interested.

what about putting them slightly lower and upside down George?
might fit the body contour a bit better.

hey mty, we looked at all that, but they were never going to fit, but i did learn one thing from the experience, i spent 2 yrs looking for the right lights, i thought i had done all the research i could do, so i bought them. But what i learn't was this, i should of grabbed a cheap one from the wrecker, because untill we had the light against the body we did not take into account the subtle little curves and contours. Lesson learn't.

Hey rogue, your vans body mods are a one off, and they are great, and like mine i like what i have done, and i am going to enjoy it.

Hey rossie, i also have the latest cruiser, i assume the 2 clowns near you have the same as me, in my case i got mine because after my violent crash that took my legs i wanted something big and safe, for me it's a mental thing, my problem.  I had to replace my first truck that i got after the crash, bet this is original here in oz. I got my licence renewed in the hummer, you should of seen the instructors face when i rolled up in it, he was in a little toyota prius, we could of tossed his car in the back, and still had room, he told me it was one lesson he would remember for a while, first double amputee to drive a hummer.   ;)

Hey George....did you think of frenching them in.....that way you can make the mounts to the correct curve
but still maintain the original Beddie outer curve?
Title: Re: Request your chops!
Post by: Bedfordcrazy on September 08, 2010, 12:44:13 PM
Hey kimbo, we did for about a minute, forget why we did'nt, could of been because they were such massive big lights. With the new lights we are frenching them in.  I think they will look good when finished. With customising it is all trial and error, these lights come with their own mounting frame, so it was easier, so far i have seen these lights on 2 vehicles, and they look ok. All going well, next time my sheet metal guy is here they will be done and dusted.

Thanks Ben  I don’t know but its been checked out by 3 engineneers and past, I am in the process at the moment and all I need to do is right back break locking up to early put flat washers on trans crossmember, take tint off driver window and one other thing I cant think of at this moment but small, Will the roadworthy be much different to the engineneer thanx pete

Title: Re: Request your chops!

yeh i think so.

but ive never done engineering.

can you get him to pass the diff being modded at the same time? may save you hassles when you go for a roadworthy.. then if the roadworthy bloke jumps up and down about redrilled axels you can carmly say look its on the engineering papers. it must be safe:)

its ok. ive chatted with pete on the phone and i know he is running holden rims. your right i am asuming. can you see extra holes in rear drums pete? or the old holes they may have been welded up. how else would you run holden wheels on a ford diff?
Title: Re: Request your chops!

Your stressing me out Ben, I put it in last week and asked for it to be engineneered, so I g\uess its a wait and see, But I said its got a 9" diff, 253 hq discs, What would you normally do with the holes pete
Title: Re: Request your chops!

by the book your not supposed to redrill at all.

id keep quiet and see what happens.

if the old holes have been welded up and the face skimed down you can probably get away with it because the blokes shouldnt be able to tell

dont stress until someone says something.
